Sunshine Football Club

Sunshine Football Club, nicknamed The Crows, was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1959 until 1989. The club colours were navy blue and white.

History

Sunshine were the beneficiaries of Prahran's expulsion from the VFA in 1959 and replaced them in the second division. They competed in the 1963 finals series and the following season claimed the minor premiership, only to lose to Geelong West in an upset. The club also lost the 1969 Grand Final, this time to Williamstown before finally becoming premiers in 1971, to conclude Sunshine's ninth successive finals series. Under captain-coach Don McKenzie, Sunshine defeated Brunswick by 54 points in the decider and earn promotion to division one for the first time, although they were relegated after three seasons.

In 1986 and 1988, Sunshine were second division runners-up, but due to financial problems, the club left the VFA and folded after eight rounds of the 1989 season; their record for 1989 was expunged. They were reformed in 1993. The old VFA club has no ties with the Sunshine Football Club (previously known as Sunshine YCW Football Club) now playing in the WRFL.
